Recreate Responsibly

Our volunteer River Ambassador and River Recreation Survey programs are wrapping in September. We had a record number of River Ambassador participants! We piloted the program in 2021 with 6 volunteers and have 30 this year. This program is an extension of our Recreate Responsibly campaign.

The River Ambassador team serves as liaisons with the public at popular river access sites along the Three Forks of the Flathead Wild and Scenic River with a minimum commitment of four 2-hour volunteer shifts between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Ambassadors attend information and training sessions in the spring and training sessions in coordination with Flathead National Forest, Glacier National Park, Montana FWP, Glacier Raft Co and Anytime/Anywhere CPR throughout the spring and summer to ensure the most up-to-date information is shared with public. This summer volunteers helped:

• celebrate outstanding remarkable values of the river system;

• provide safety, ethics, and etiquette tips;

• offer information on river rules and regulations;

• reference maps to suggest floats;

• collect access site user related information;

• offer loaner life jackets through our partnership with MT FWP;

• distribute reusable waterways cleanup bags;

• and more!

Our programs are made possible thanks to monetary and volunteer time donations, annual sponsors, agency funding and grants.
